Review of Shattering the Darkness Series, Jessica Spoon

Darkeness Deserved
Jessica Spoon

This is the first book in the Shattering the Darkness Series.  The story is about Harper Reagan, a beautiful woman attempting to travel on the path of a new life, leaving behind her horrid past.  Losing her parents to a horrible murder as a child, being put into a broken foster care system and being abused by a foster father sets her on a road of no return.  Living  a life a prostitute, accepting this is her life with no way out, or so she thought until her savior comes to rescue her.  Nikko Scott, a family friend helps Harper get out of her horrible life and helps her start a future , helping to keep her past hidden.  Just when Harper is getting comfortable in her new life, she meets a handsome Adonis, Breccan Caldwell.  He is gorgeous and wants Harper in his life, but will she let him into her past or will she walk away in order to protect him.

This book was filled with suspense in wondering what the main character will do.  Filled with hot scenes of passion between Breccan and Harper.  There were times when Harper’s indecisiveness to keep her past hidden from Breccan seem to drag out too long, but in the end, the author will make the read worth while, with a little cliffhanger into the second book.

This is Jessica Spoon’s debut novel and she is great writer.  I enjoyed reading this book.

Ascending Darkness
Book 2 of the Shattering the Darkness Series
Jessica Spoon

This is the 2nd book in the Shattering the Darkness Series.  Ascending Darkness, picks up from the first book Darkness Deserved.  Harper and Breccan struggle to have a future together, but Harper’s fear of Breccan learning everything in her past keeps her from fully opening up to him.  She is afraid to love again for fear all of her happiness will be taken away by someone from her past.  Things start to happen to those she cares about, leaving her and Nikko to wonder if the one person she feared is back and knows where she is.  As her relationship with Breccan deepens, Harper is starting to realized no matter what her past is, Breccan is never going to leave her and that love she has always thought she could never have is no within reach.

This 2nd book I have to say, was my favorite.  Although the first book really set the tone to become familiar with all the characters, this book really gets the reader invested in the characters making you not want to put it down.  Jessica’s description of certain scenes really makes your hair stand up and yet her love scenes are much more delicate, describing the love between the main characters, Breccan and Harper.  In the end, I was pleased with where Jessica left the characters.

4 Stars

The Branded Anthology was a great read! This is the third time I have read an anthology and I really enjoy them! My favorite part of reading anthologies, is finding new authors that I have not run across or had the chance to read. I had not read any of the authors in this anthology but, I will be in the future.

All of these stories were well written bad boy/good girl stories. I loved them all. I am sucker for bad boys like most women who read modern day romance novels. Each story had a different story line, but fell in the same category. I definitely felt a wide range of emotion while reading each story. They all had a certain level of hotness (sexy time), suspense, angst, and drama, hello? Who doesn’t love all of that in their bad boy reads?

I read this anthology in one day, and after every story I was intrigued to see what I was going to get next! I definitely liked them all, but like anyone I do have my favorites. Jo Mathews’ Desolation and Jeanne McDonald’s Renegade were awesome and I will definitely be looking for more by these authors. If you have not read these authors, give the Branded Anthology a chance, you won’t be disappointed!

Based almost entirely on body language, intimate feelings can develop within less than a minute of meeting someone.
Additionally, meeting in a dangerous situation increases the chances of falling in love.

Where meeting her eyes means seeing it through.
Following down from the start to don’t let me go.
From roll up to run.
Between old glory and new beginnings.

Jeanne McDonald
Jeanne McDonald began telling stories at the ripe young age of five, when her mother considered the truth to be a lie due to her extensive embellishment to the retelling of an event.  She wrote her first short story when she was twelve years old, and at the age of sixteen she tried her hand at poetry.  She reconnected with her love for writing in 2010 thanks to the encouragement of a dear friend.

A dark, seductive force calls to her… pulls her towards its clutches…

3.5 Stars

Theodora is a strong and independant woman, willing to live the way she chooses and not what society dictates. But when Theodora inherited her great-aunts manor, everything she knows about life and reality is tested. As Theodora feels a pull from a force unknown, she questions everything and slowly realizes that the pull she feels is very real.. and is calling to her. Can she resist what she feels is dark or will she succumb to it's will?

I was immediately drawn into this tale of darkness and intrigue and loved the very specific details of the 'hole.' The first chapters grabbed me as a reader and refused to let go! I did however feel that the shortness of the chapters and lack of the character personality hindered my ability to give this book a higher rating. I tried throughout the book to relate to Theodora, but I just wasn't given enough as a reader to connect to her. In saying this, I must say that the dynamics between Tur'kul and Theodora left me panting for more! Alot more! :)  I do think this book is a great 'Dark' romance and can recommend this to any readers that love a naughty and paranormal romance. ~Maggie Wadsager

“You alright, my Sweet? This too much?” he asked quietly. I pulled back slightly so I could look up at him, and I smiled when the corner of his mouth lifted, his gray eyes darkening some nearly instantly, both in dilation and emotion. Confirmation that I’d nailed his character for him. I inhaled deeply when his hand slid slowly down my back so that he gripped my bottom, and that was it. It was like a dam had been breached. In seconds, Klive had both hands gripping the hell out of my ass as he spun me into the suite so that the door slammed and locked automatically behind us. I consumed his raw groan like water as I pulled at his lips, sucked his tongue into my mouth. “Oh, shit, what are you wearing under here?” he breathed when he had me laid out on the granite of the kitchenette, my knees bent, my legs parted for his hand that had roamed to the wet ribbon between my thighs. “Oh, damn, woman. He went shopping in your closet, then?” he asked to himself, but he was giddy as hell. “Come, I’ve lost my head a bit. I apologize, but you will put me into a blasted frenzy if I take this dress off. Don’t think you want to be taken on such a surface as this, do you?” he smiled stupidly so that I giggled a bit.

“In all fairness, sir,” I paused to sit up on the counter top and grip his open shirt in my fists to jerk him toward me. “You are the one paying me. I think that earns you the right to take me on whatever surface you wish, now doesn’t it?”

His eyes closed, his hand scrubbed over his whole face, and I was empowered with the fact that he was hanging by a thread in his attempt to keep from carnally devouring me in the hardest, most dirty ways that I couldn’t help but pray for. I wanted to be sore as hell tomorrow. I bit my lip as a tinge of guilt at sneaking out hit me, and Klive opened his dark and stormy eyes and sent a jolt like lightning straight to my core so that I had to squirm a bit to fight off the insane lust that I was throbbing with.

“You would be fucking right,” he growled and tugged me off the counter.

MeetTheAuthor

I write twisted erotic romance, and I'm not typically a hit it-n-quit it type of girl, nor am I traditional. Personally, when I read, I want to feel the emotion and sensation, so I expect nothing less of my own work. However controversial, sometimes even disturbing or offensive, if only one reader shares my love for these beautiful, yet flawed characters and situations as much as I do, then it's all been worth sharing. I'm not everyone's taste, but you may find my particular flavor makes you crave more.
