EXCERPT (I Belong to You)

Excerpt from I Belong to You (Inside Out #5) by Lisa Renee Jones. Copyright 2014

He pulls me forward and in a few steps we’re inside the elegant library, where walls of books are illuminated by droplights from a high ceiling. I turn to face him, not sure what to expect next with his changing moods.

He shuts the door, and before I can blink, he’s advanced on me and I’m against the wall. His hands are pressed to the wall above my head, but he doesn’t touch me. And I want him to. Too much. So damn much.

“Topic number one,” he says tightly. “You aren’t using your own security people. You’re my responsibility.”

My irritation is instant. “I am not your responsibility.”

“Don’t push me on this, Ms. Smith.”

“You know what? It is Ms. Smith to you. And don’t order me around like I’m your submissive. I didn’t sign your damn contract.”

“I think we’re both clear on that fact.”

“And you were right: We definitely need boundaries.”

“I won’t have my security process compromised by outsiders who aren’t fully accountable to me. You’re using my security team. Subject closed.”

“Spare me the dictator routine. I already told Jacob I’d use your people.”

“When?”

“On the way over here.”

“Why?”

“Because you and my father would be like the Clash of the Titans. You and I clash enough on our own. We don’t need to add more to the mix.”

His eyes sharpen. “Is that what you call what we do?” he asks, his voice a rough, low tone that creates a tingling in my nipples. “Clashing?”

I swallow hard, trying to control the heaviness of my breathing that I fear he’s already noticed. “You have a better name for it?”

“Many words come to mind. Should I start listing them?”

“No,” I say, certain I won’t approve of his choices. He glances at my mouth, and I suddenly remember the spicy, delicious way he tastes. Instinctively, my hands flatten on the hard wall of his chest. “Don’t kiss me,” I warn. The heat darting up my arms tells me how bad an idea touching him was.

“But you want me to,” he says, his hands sliding to my wrists, and somehow he makes it darkly erotic. This isn’t one of our spontaneous moments that we dismiss the next day. This is different, uncharted territory.

He leans closer and I splay my fingers on his chest, applying pressure. “I said don’t.”

“Because you don’t want me to, or because you’re afraid of where it will lead?”

“Because I said it. That’s the only reason you need.”

“Yet you didn’t deny that you want me to.”

“Eve really wanted the apple, and look where it got her.”

“If anyone’s being tempted by a poison apple”—his head lowers, lips close to mine, breath warm and tempting on my cheek— “it’s me.”

My fingers flex against hard muscle. “Mark—”

“I think it’s because you’re afraid of where it might lead, of the power you think it might give me over you.”

I try to tug my wrists away but he holds me easily, a gleam in his eyes. “I never fell into bed with you,” I say. “I was captive to the emotions you were feeling, feeding off those. You don’t have the power over me.”

“No. You have the power. That’s what you don’t understand. You have the power—or I wouldn’t be lying in bed at night remembering how you taste.” He pauses for effect. “And I do remember how you taste. All of you. Every last inch. Your mouth. Your neck. Your nipples. Your—”

“Stop it,” I hiss, knowing exactly what he was going to say next. “I know what you’re trying to do.”

He inches backward, releasing my wrists, and taking the promise of a kiss with him, those gray eyes resting keenly on my face. “What am I trying to do?”

“This is a game. It’s manipulation.”

“I want to fuck you. Many times. Many ways. How is that manipulation?”

“One minute you want to fuck me. The next—”

“I always want to fuck you. I just want to do it my way. With your pleasure at my mercy. Your hands tied up. Your legs tied up. Your clit on my tongue.”

“Stop.”

“Why? Am I making you wet?”

I glare, my only defense against an answer I’m not going to give him.

“I’ll find out myself,” he says, dragging my hemline upward before I know his intent.

I grab his hand and my skirt. “Don’t even think about it.”

“We’re both thinking about it.”

His cell phone rings and he stiffens, drawing a deep breath before his hands fall away from me…

TOUR - Finding Home by M.T. Bev

Abby Montgomery left Greenville with a broken heart. She loves her life in the city. She has two amazing friends, Ethan and Haley, and a great paying job.

When she learns her mother has cancer she moves back to GreenVille. She soon realises a part of her wants to stay in Greenville.

Jude McCain's world fell apart when the woman he loves left without even a goodbye. When Abby returns to Greenville he vows to never let her leave again.

When Abby is unsure if she wants to stay or go, can Jude convince her that her heart and home are in Greenville?

Jude tilted her head so she had to look at him. "You don't have to carry the burden alone. I will be here with you. No matter what you want or need, all you have to do is let me know. If you need a shoulder to cry one, I have two. When one is soaked with tears you can cry on the other one. If you need arms to hold you, I have two open and ready for you." Jude looked into Abby's eyes. "You mean the fucking world to me. You always have. I don't want you running from your problems when it gets too much for you. Let me help you. Let me help you. Let me in. I swear to you, I will be right here."
"I don't know what to do," Abby said gloomily.
"Just talk right now. Let it out. We are here alone," Jude said.
"I am just so scared," Abby shrugged her shoulders.
"Why?" Jude asked. He wasn't trying to be polite, he wanted to know why.
Abby sighed, "It's a long list."
Jude scanned the area and had an idea. He stood up and offered a hand to Abby.
"Come with me." He smiled at Abby.
Abby took his hand. They walked off the pier and to the shore line that was littered with pebbles and rocks. Jude let of of Abby's hand and bent down to pick up a rock about the size of his palm. He tossed the rock a few times and turned it over several times in his hand before he looked at Abby.
"These rocks are our fears," he waved his hand and gestured to the rocks on the ground. "we are going to throw our fears into the lake."
"You have fears?" Abby asked Jude.
Jude had always seemed fearless to Abby. Nothing could scare him.
Jude looked at the horizon where water met sky and said, "We all have fears. Some people are better at hiding their fears better than others. Some fear lay in the deepest darkest corner of our mind and don't surface until we are forced to face those fears."
Abby took in his words. She shook her head and asked him, "How is this going to help?"
"Hell I don't know. It seemed like a fun way to bring our fears to the surface. I know throwing rock won't magically make the fears go away, but it might help," Jude grinned at Abby.
Abby rolled her eyes and picked up a large rock.
"No, not the heavy stuff at first. Let's work our way up," he took the rock from Abby and threw it back on the ground.
"I will go first," He turn over the rock over in his hand. "This is my fear of spiders."
Abby tried to hold back her laughter, but failed.
"Not fair you can't laugh," Jude gave her a mocked wounded look.
"Sorry," Abby bit her bottom lip fighting the urge to laugh.
The fear of spiders is a real phobia. I am not going to run and scream like a girl. If I see one of those fuckers though, it will be dead," Jude threw the rock into the lake.
Abby bent down and picked up a rock that easily fit in her hand. The threw the rock hard and shouted "heights'.
Jude gave her a smile of approval before he bent down for his next rock. This time clowns was his fear.
Abby knew all about that fear all too well.
Troy, Jude, and Abby had a weekly movie night. When Abby was thirteen Jude snuck in the movie 'It'. Pennywise the Clown scared the crap out of all three of them. Their parents would have been pissed if they found out. They all swore they would never watch the movie again. Since that night Jude has always had coulrophobia.
They spent the next five minutes throwing rock into the lake. It didn't take long before their smaller fear started turning into bigger fears.
Abby picked up a heavier rock. The fear made the rock seem bigger and heavier than it was. It was one fear she has always fear. She worked her ass off so the fear would never become a reality. "I will never belong anywhere," Abby shouted and threw the rock.
Jude turned his head toward Abby, but decided to not say anything. He picked up a rock Abby was sure she wouldn't be able pickup, let alone throw. He focused all this thoughts onto the rock. He almost forgot where he was and what he was doing. He threw the rock with as much force as he could and whispered quietly to where Abby almost missed his words. "She will never love me." His shoulder slumped.
Abby paused and looked at Jude. She wondered who the "she" was. She had been gone for five years and had no illusion that everyone would stop living their lives because she moved away. Jude had a strong personality and everything he did was fueled by passion. Abby felt a tinge of jealousy toward this mystery girl. She also wanted to give him some kind of comfort.

Excerpt
EVERYTHING WAS SET. THE windows were locked, and soon the doors would be as well. My best friend Linnea was preparing an extra ward on the front door to my apartment. Ideally, it would help keep away all the dark magical critters that wandered around during the Dark Hour. No guarantees, though, because she’s not my chosen Guardian, so her magic couldn’t protect me in all the ways it should. At least she was trying, which is more than I can say about the guy who was supposed to act as my Guardian. Key words supposed to be. He does his job, sure, but I think the only reason he ever shows up is because he knows he’ll be mauled by my parents if he doesn’t. Or what’s left of him, since I’m pretty sure Linnea would get to him first. “Three minutes until the Dark Hour,” Kendall said from the couch. He sat with his younger brother, trying to keep the kid calm by reading a book. Since Max is young enough to not understand the concept of time, it worked for the most part. He seemed pretty engrossed with the pictures. Much like me, I’m pretty sure Kendall’s skin was crawling. He’s a Keeper, as am I. Every night when the Dark Hour came, I felt like I wanted to scratch my flesh raw in anticipation. The disturbance in the dimensional field always made me uncomfortable. Gooseflesh prickled my arms and legs, uncontrollable shivers came next, and then there was the sensation of being watched by something dark and dangerous. I know Kendall felt it too because that was one of the many “perks” to being a Keeper. We know when there’s a shift between the real world and the magical one. It’s how we know when to do our job. Whatever that is — information we haven’t been told yet since we aren’t old enough to actually work. The Dark Hour, unfortunately, comes every night. It’s the one time of the day when we Keepers are helpless to stop the magical minions from entering a world where they’re not supposed to exist. Something about the way the magic shifts temporarily on the Other Side makes it strong enough for the cross over to happen. Doubly unfortunate because, of course, only the naughty, scary kind of magical beings ever do. Things like crazy faeries, goblins, dark witches, and these nasty giant red worms. “Two minutes,” Kendall whispered. “I don’t need a countdown,” I mumbled and plopped down next to him on the couch. I turned on the television and searched for something among the five-hundred-some stations to watch. Hopefully, I’d be able to find something that could drown out the obnoxious constant hum of powerful magic and the negative energy that would soon be filling the apartment. Linnea took in a deep breath. “Don’t worry Becca, I’ll do my best to protect you like you’re mine.” “I know,” I said softly. “But I don’t want it to come down to that. If something were to happen to you...” Kendall rolled his eyes. “Don’t act like your protection isn’t as important as mine. You know that’s not true. If even one of us is lost, it could all be over.” That was when Erik, my Guardian sauntered into the apartment, as casual as ever. He locked the door and put his official magical seal onto it before taking off his shoes and coat — as if my world hadn’t been about to end. No one said a word, but I did let out a sigh of relief. Erik went to the bathroom and Linnea started cooking in the kitchen. Even though it was after midnight now, she tended to like to make elaborate late night snacks. Kendall had lucked out having Linnea, the good Guardian, who actually did her job.

Three Days Cover Reveal

SYNOPSIS
When Loving Rowan ended, Andrew still had his story to tell. The story of starting his life again.

Three days …
How long I was married to Charlie. Her death on our third day of marriage still haunts me, the part I played in her asthma attack will be with me forever. I loved her, but just couldn’t let go of the past.
Three days …
How long I held Rowan captive, trying to convince her that she needed to be with me. She’d turned her back on me once I chose Charlie and moved on with someone else. In my grief and stupidity, I lost any chance of her friendship.
Three days …
Now I’m out of prison and need to start again. I wasn't looking for any relationship, the thought of love is simply too painful. And yet, it’s been three days since I met Maddy. Already she’s brought more laughter to my life than I have had in so very long. She’s been through a lot too, so now I wonder if we can make a fresh start together.
