RELEASE DAY BLITZ - Redemption by Jaimie Roberts

Title: Redemption
Series: Deviant #2
Author: Jaimie Roberts
 Release Date: April 3, 2015

Synopsis

How could anyone move on from a betrayal so devastating, it cut down to the bone and rooted itself deep within? You could never forgive such heartache…

Or could you?

From the moment Tyler was six, she fell in love with that cocky eight-year-old boy with the black spiky hair, captivating blues eyes, and scruffy uniform. From the moment he punched a boy for hurting her, Tyler knew there was no going back. They were always meant to be together...

Always.

Then everything changed. The stage was set like a tragic Shakespearean play, and Tyler’s and Dean’s world—as they knew it—had ended.

Or had it?

Tyler

My name was Jessica now. I faked my own death, changed my identity, and moved thousands of miles across the ocean just to escape the one man I would never get out of my heart. I had a four-year-old son I adored more than anything in the world. On one fateful, horrific night, the life I knew disappeared in the blink of an eye. I left people behind. People I cared about. People I would never forget. People I loved.

But had I truly moved on?

No one said leaving behind the one man you had loved since you were six would be easy. I lived life day-to-day. I even met a man and tried to settle down. Evan was a man any woman would desire. So why could I not love him the way he obviously loved me? Why couldn’t I move past the dark-haired, blue-eyed boy who consumed my every thought? I may have left him, but he had never truly left me.

I could never love another man. Dean made sure of that the day he breezed into my life. I was only half a woman now. I had been broken and bruised by the one man I thought I could always love and trust. How could I let go of something like that? I suppose I just had to. I was just getting by with each day that passed. I was coping. I was managing, and that was keeping me from falling apart.

But then disaster struck again. And it was on that day…

Everything changed.

Dean

You can’t hide forever, Tyler. I will always be hunting you, always be searching, and will never give up. If there was ever one certainty in your life, it was that. You slipped through my fingers, not once but twice. You took my heart with you when you left me that day. No amount of alcohol, women, or punching bags would block you from my mind. You couldn’t be dead. I wouldn’t allow you to be dead. You’re out there somewhere. I must congratulate you that you had evaded me for this long. You always were a smart girl. How could I not have fallen in love with you? You did escape me this time, but I will find you, Tyler. I promise you that. And when that day comes… I will finally make you MINE.

Kill or Die
Nina Hardwick has had a rough life since leaving high school, but inside she is still the girl looking for a silver lining. The past several years have left their toll on her psyche, and just as she feels like she’s climbing out of a deep abyss, her life and the lives of millions of others fall into shambles as a virus overtakes the country and leaves a plague of undead armies scouring the land.
In a desperate attempt to get away from the infected, Nina and some neighbors speed out of town, nearly killing a man on a motorcycle. When they stop to rescue him, Nina realizes that he is the one man from her past she never got over, the guy who should have been her high school sweetheart until she messed it up. But this unrequited love, Kevin Savage, says he doesn’t even remember her. Or does he?
Nina, Kevin, and her neighbors head to the wilderness and fight to survive not only the plague but also hunger, cold, their inner demons…and even each other. Will they survive and, more importantly, will her heart?

Excerpt
I lay in Kevin’s arms for longer than I could calculate, staring out the window and watching as the sky grew darker.  Part of me wished we could stay like this forever, in this place the world seemed to have forgotten about, away from everything bad and horrible and dark.
That might have been nice, but there was still the question of my kids…and the rest of my family.  I needed to know they were all right, had to find out where they were.  I didn’t know how the hell I was going to do that or when, but I needed to.
Up against my body, he felt strong where I felt weak, warm where I could only sense cold.  He had become to me everything I always knew he was, and the realization that I had fallen in love with him again struck me hard.  It had been an easy slide, one I hadn’t even known I was on until my feet were back on the ground.
I decided there, in his arms, that I wasn’t going to fight it.
But I also wasn’t going to acknowledge it.  After our weird past as teens, I didn’t know what to expect from him in the aftermath.  I only knew this moment, and I was going to cherish it, hold it tightly in my heart like I might clench a locket in my fist, and then I was going to let tomorrow bring what it would.  I would leave this room with no expectations, no hope.
It was something I’d grown pretty good at over the years.
As if he could read my mind, he said, “We should probably head back.”
“Yeah, I was thinking that.  I think a storm’s moving in, don’t you?”  I turned around in his arms.  Part of me didn’t want to.  I was sad—profoundly—but felt like I shouldn’t be drowning in that emotion.  I didn’t want to give away anything in my head.
His voice was soft when he said, “Yeah, I think so, so we shouldn’t screw around.”
I smiled in spite of myself.  “A little late.”
He grinned too, and I imagined that he was feeling inside the same way I was but also wanted to try to put on a happy face.  But he pulled me close and kissed me tenderly.  He didn’t say anything, though, even after his lips left mine.
I wanted to acknowledge the significance of his earlier revelation, even though part of me was afraid to go there, so afraid of what the truth was.  But I had to know.  “Do you really remember me…or were you just saying that?”

Lisa Hughston’s life is perfect. With a doting husband, two handsome little boys, and a job she loves as a nurse, she’s done the one thing she always vowed to do: rise above everyone who told her she would amount to nothing more than a high school dropout and drug addict. Just like her mother.
There’s only one problem in her seemingly flawless life … she doesn't know anything about her husband’s past. Christopher knows the truth about who he is and where he came from wouldn’t just hurt his wife. It would destroy her. He’s done—and vows to continue doing—everything in his power to keep that side of him buried forever. But when Lisa unknowingly befriends his estranged family, she sends their once perfect life into a tailspin. Will they survive the fallout when she discovers who he really is and the secrets he’s been hiding?
excerpt
Long Lost Family (An Unedited Excerpt) The shuffling near the front door caught her attention, but Lisa didn't turn around. Tensing, she clung to the couch in an almost futile attempt to gather strength for the fight she knew was coming.
"So you're really not letting me see the boys today?"
"You lied," she whispered, her voice thick and hoarse from tears. "Is Christopher even your real name?”
Behind her, her husband cleared his throat but didn't answer. Nothing would dig him out of the hole he'd created, and frankly he was tired of all the fighting.
"It's funny." Lisa shook her head, forcing out a humorless laugh. "After all this time and after everything I've tried ... I still ended up just like my mother. I watched her—year after year, guy after guy losing herself. Changing herself for these losers that weren't worth her spit. I swore I'd never be like that." She snapped her head around to face him. Guarded eyes stared back at her. A hard set jaw unflinching and unwelcoming. She’s caved to that look dozens of times over the years, but today, she refused to back down. "Then you came along. You are the one who wanted a wife, and a family, and a home. You're the one who asked me you marry you. Everything you've ever wanted I've given you. Everything I do, every breath I take revolves around you and the boys. All you’ve ever had to do was tell me the truth. That's all. I've done everything for you and you couldn't do this one thing for me."
"Would you have said yes?" Christopher’s deep voice cut through the moment. "If I'd told you—if you had known What I'd done. Where I'd come from, and who I was. Would we have had all of this?" He gestured around the room. A broken picture frame still lied on the ground. "Would you have married me then? Would you have had my children knowing the blood that would run through their veins? Would you have fought to make a life with me? Tell me now that my past wouldn't have made a difference, and I'll get on my hands and knees and beg for your forgiveness."
"No," Lisa admitted after a long, reflective stretch of silence.
"Then stop demanding an apology we both know you don't deserve."
"An apology I don't deserve?" she repeated in shock. The words echoed in her ears, rattling her brain and shattering every shred of desire she had left to deal with this version of her husband—this stranger that had infiltrated their lives. Six months ago, he would have moved heaven and earth to make up for something asinine like forgetting the milk on his way home from work. Now, after being faced with their very existence being a lie, she wasn't worthy of getting a simple 'I'm sorry.'
"I would say I don't even know who you are anymore, but the truth is I never did, did I?”
