The Beats In Rift by Ker Dukey

The Beats in Rift

Release day ~ June 13th

Blurb:

I was invisible, until they saw me.

When circumstance forced me and the Jacob twins
to spend two weeks of the summer together,
the bond we formed would impact us all,
altering our lives.
Fate, entwining us forever.
They became my best friends, my family, my first love.
With their love came their father’s hate!
Love is powerful but also painful and destructive
when it’s torn between three people.
When my mother’s reputation and their father’s vile actions
damage that love, that friendship, it changes the dynamics of our trio
setting me on a path of love, loss and impossible decisions.

Jared the beautiful rogue, who pushed her limits,
opened her eyes and owned her heart.
Their love was powerful, everlasting… until he abandoned her.
Justin, loyal and true, picked her up when she was left fragmented.
He made a place for himself in her heart and would fight to keep it.
When both twins come in and out of Meadows life,
leaving damage and hurt in their wake
will she ever choose one or the other, or leave them both without
the beats in their heart?

Review

Wow. This book was amazing. I’m going to get the star rating out of the way and scream FIVE! I picked up this book and did not set it down until I was done. It was definitely a page turner for me. I love stories that start when the characters are younger and grow as they do. Amazing, I tell you!

In The Beats in Rift, we first meet Meadow when she is thirteen and she is introduced to twin brothers, Jared and Justin. They become fast friends with a love for music and before we know they have grown up and she and Jared have become much more than just friends.

Striding toward her, my had grasping the nape of her neck, I pull her to her feet. Bringing my other hand to clasp her cheek, I crush my lips down onto her soft, warm mouth. I caress her lips, coaxing them to part with a flick of my tongue. She opens willingly, her tongue meeting my own with hunger. My skin heats as her hands slide up my back, igniting my lust further. When she moans into my mouth I want to write a song about the sound of that moan. Pulling away reluctantly, we’re both left panting.

“You don’t need to be nervous, Beats. You’re an amazing kisser, but these lips are meant for me, not Drake.”

As with a lot of young love stories, there is going to be turmoil to break them apart (especially when you have a crazy daddy and a whore momma running around), which leaves Meadow and Justin to pick up the pieces when Jared leaves town. I’m sure you can see where this is going. Meadow and Justin begin dating. But you never forget your first love, especially when he refuses to stay away.

“Meadow.” I flinch at the tone of Justin’s voice. I look over Jared’s shoulder to see Justin’s glare narrowed on us. “Go put some clothes on. Jared, stop fucking looking at her like that.”

His laugh makes me jump. “Still paranoid she wants me and not you? I thought you moved on with Stepford? Besides, I think she likes me looking at her, judging by that flush on her skin. Are you pink all over, Beats?”

Justin storms across the room, grabbing me by the wrist. “For fuck’s sake, Jared! She’s standing there covered in my scent and you’re still making a play for her?”

This story spans a decade and a lot can happen in that time. You are going to laugh, cry, blush, and gasp out loud at the secrets hidden. If you love books about family with a lot of drama added in this is the book for you!

Author bio:

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active, I would want to change the script. I would watch films and think of ways they could of improved the story if they took another direction.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling too.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life, but when I do get down time, I love attending music concerts with my younger sister, who shares my reading soul, we are two peas in a pod.
