M. Stratton's Halloween Scavenger Hunt

Day Four

With Halloween right around the corner, M. Stratton has decided to celebrate one of her favourite holiday’s with a good old fashioned scavenger hunt!  Join us as we journey through all of her books in search of the missing pieces needed to claim the final grand prize.

Every day you will be sent in search of different hosting blogs that will hold the pieces needed to continue on in the hunt.  After each day, go back to the event page and make sure you post the pieces needed for the day.

At the end of the week one lucky winner will be chosen to win a collection of signed books from M. Stratton(including The Storm Series, Dreaming in Moonlight and Fade to Black) and a $25 Amazon Gift Card.

Remember the missing piece may be hidden in an synopsis, excerpt, teaser photo or interview questions given to Miss Statton and you may have to visit more than one blog to find it.  Make sure no piece is unturned……

Dreaming in Moonlight

Synopsis

Ghosts are real. They are all around us. Most of the time they are satisfied to watch us go by and not interact. When a couple was cursed to spend three hundred years in death searching for the one living couple that could release their bounds they search for centuries to find a love that will make time stand still. If they fail they will be sent to Hell to live out the rest of eternity.

Demons are real. They are all around us. Their one goal is make our lives a living hell. They will stop at nothing to destroy our minds and bodies. With the curse rapidly approaching its end the deepest darkest demon is summoned to make sure they don’t succeed.

Kate O’Malley fell in love with the old two story farm house in Maine at first sight. She had to live there. Spending all of her savings she was able to buy it and moved right in. The very first night strange things happened. Her dreams aren’t her own. Looking for answers she calls on a friend who puts her in contact with a ghost hunter, Sawyer Hamilton. Neither knew what was in their future, neither knows if they are going to survive it.

Dreaming in Moonlight when your sleep is filled with passion and your nightmares are real.

Excerpt

The only weapon I had was the broom. I lifted it high above my head and smashed it down, right through it. The shockwaves went through my arms as the broom broke when it hit the ground. I looked at the sharp broken end that was still in my hands and couldn’t believe what had just happened.
The smell of rotten eggs seemed to fill the air; I swore I could almost see yellow smoke starting to fill the basement. Where it had ahold of my leg it started to burn, I tried to kick it off but it wouldn’t let go. Taking the sharp end of the handle I tried to stab at it. It felt like I was pushing it through water, there was substance now.
I could still hear Sawyer trying to get through the door and the annoying sound of screeching coming from his equipment. When the thing started adding its own hideous noises to the mix all I wanted to do was cover my ears and roll up in a ball wishing it would all go away. Instead I doubled my efforts to stab at it, hoping I was doing some kind of damage.
It reared up and I ended up falling over landing hard on my side. I could almost reach the rock column. The only thought in my head was if I could somehow grab onto it then I might be able to pull myself away. As my fingers grazed it the thing let out a blood curdling scream. The pressure relieved for a moment and I was able to scoot a little further away. I moved closer to the column getting a better grip on it, glancing back over my shoulder I saw it seem to get larger and rise up over me almost completely blocking out the little bit of sun that came through the small windows.
I felt my heart was going to beat out of my chest and I couldn’t seem to catch my breath. The closer it got to me the more its shape began to form into some kind of hideous beast straight from the depths of Hell. It opened its mouth; huge fangs dripped some kind of dark substance that when it fell to the ground started to bubble and fizz like acid. The breath that blew from its mouth had the stench of death.
As I moved back so that my body was pressed up against the column the door upstairs burst open and I could hear Sawyer racing down the stairs. I didn’t want to take my eyes off of it even when I heard him yell “What the fuck.”
It lunged toward me, its hideous mouth gapping open as if to swallow me whole. I felt Sawyer’s hands roughly grab my arm and start pulling me away. The thing keep getting closer and screaming louder and louder, by this point I couldn’t tear my eyes away, they were locked with the beast’s. Sawyer was trying to pull me away but I was trapped by its weight on my legs. As soon as Sawyer used the column to help pry me away the beast screamed one last time and disappeared in a puff of smoke. With the weight off of me both Sawyer and I fell back and I came to rest with my back on top of him. Staring blankly at the exposed wood beam above me I let his warmth seep into me.
“We’re going to need a bigger boat.” He mumbled.

I couldn’t help myself; I started laughing so hard at the line from Jaws I had tears running down my face.

Halloween at the Stratton House

8 Things You Didn't Know About M. Stratton

1. She loves the movie Twister… she can say all the lines along with the actors. She will also use those lines in real life as often as possible.

2. Halloween is her favorite holiday. She starts planning months in advance. She has more Halloween decorations than Christmas.

3. She once made up a monologue about her love of chocolate chip cookie dough for her high school drama class.

4. There are times she thinks she is so funny she has tears running down her face while laughing at herself.

5. M. can play the clarinet but is in awe of anyone who can play the guitar, piano or drums, pretty much anything where your hands have to do two different things at the same time.

6. Cary Grant is her favorite actor. When she was in high school after Cary Grant died one of the cable stations ran a marathon, she watched his movies from 6 in the morning all day and night until 4 AM the next day.

7. Reading has always been an escape for her. She can devour a book in hours. When she moved in with her husband she literally donated over 1,000 books and saved over 1,000 for herself. She can reread books over and over again if she loves them. There are some that she has reread about once a year for the past 20 years.

8. She eloped after knowing her husband for only two months in 2006. They are still married over seven years later.

About the Author
M. Stratton is an International Amazon bestselling author in the romantic suspense and mystery suspense categories for her debut novel After the Storm. She is a self-proclaimed dork that loves to make people laugh and can trip over nothing. Her inner rock star is always on stage performing to a sold out crowd but is quiet and shy on the outside.

She lives with her husband and son in Arizona, which is a big difference from where she grew up north of Chicago Illinois. As an only child she learned to tell herself stories to make the long winters go by quicker while dreaming of summer vacations. Now as an adult she still makes up stories to pass the time, but now she writes them down to share with other people.

When not writing you can find M. watching football (Go Bears!), NASCAR, or classic movies, watching her husband and father restore classic cars, and seeing who can be sillier, her or her son, and of course reading.

Excerpt
He looks up and I watch his eyes take me in.  Slowly.  They rake over me, dropping from my eyes to my glossed lips down to my exposed shoulders.  Taking his time, he follows the neckline of my simple, yet body contouring sundress, lingering when he reaches my full breasts.  I’m sufficiently covered, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t aware that the dress showed off my assets well.  Tight around my chest, gathering snuggly at the waist, with a scant amount of cleavage.  Just enough coverage to still leave something for him to imagine.  And I watch his face change as his imagination takes off running.
His eyes drift down my legs, tanned now from the eternal California sun.  Momentarily he’s lost in what he sees and doesn’t even notice I’m watching him leer.  Totally worth the extra effort getting ready tonight, I couldn’t be happier at the reaction I get.  Eventually, his eyes make their way back up to mine and I arch one eyebrow, letting him know he’s been caught.  A normal reaction might be to look embarrassed or perhaps even flustered a little.  But not Zack.  Instead, he flashes me a wicked grin.  “You look incredible.”  He’s the one doing the leering, yet I’m the one who ends up blushing.

About the Authors:
vi keeland bio.png
Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work.  She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting smut author by night!

Dylan Scott
Dylan Scott is a New York trial attorney, wife and mother of four.  She believes her job as a trial attorney is a subcategory to the field of entertainment more than law.   With a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature she believed teaching English was a destined career choice until she realized her life long talent of "argument" could actually be her job.   A recent, fairly boring, midlife crisis resulted in a brief stint as a middle school English teacher which confirmed that she wasn't ready to give up the law.   Dylan has also taught legal courses at the college level and worked with at-risk inner city youth in the roles of mentor and coach.  She is co-author Vi Keeland's biggest fan.

Excerpt
“Andrew?” I question as I reach the table. “Yes. Harper, hello.” He shakes my hand and the first thing I notice are his warm eyes. They are gentle and sincere and I feel instantly comfortable with him. “Take a seat, please.” He gestures to my seat before pulling it out for me to sit in. I smile up at him in thanks for the chivalrous action as I slide into the chair. During our emails back and forth this week, Andrew and I had figured out that we are from similar small towns not far from each other. We laugh about all the misguided town folk and the classic ‘types’ every town has. The town clown who has thought of every invention under the sun, the do-gooder mayor, the old lady gossip group, and the crazy minister and his family. Of course I didn’t laugh at that last one, as true as it is, being the daughter of a minister and all. “So what do your parents do?” Andrew asks. “Umm.” I stall looking for a distraction, not wanting to make to him feel bad. “What can I get you guys?” Tate offers and I’m grateful for the interruption. “Oh gosh I haven’t even looked yet,” Andrew says as he picks up the menu from the table. “Just the usual for me please.” As my eyes reach Tate’s his are wide with horror. I sit upright at the urgency in his expression wondering what the hell is going on. He nods his head in Andrew’s direction and I glance over. Andrew is studying the menu oblivious to mine and Tate’s silent conversation. I look back at Tate giving him a ‘what’ look as he scratches his head then stiffly nods back in Andrew’s direction. I sigh frustrated and look back at Andrew. He looks up from his menu and smiles at me before turning to Tate and placing his order. I still don’t see a problem and look back to Tate with a ‘just fucking tell me’ look. He begins running his hand through his hair as he harshly nods in Andrew’s direction again. I don’t even bother looking at Andrew again, knowing I’m not going to see anything different than before. With wide eyes and a clenched jaw, I get out through gritted teeth, “I think that’s all.” Tate sighs heavily, clearly frustrated and storms away from the table. I shake my head and when I turn back to Andrew he is staring at me in confusion. “Sorry,” I giggle embarrassed he witnessed that final interaction between Tate and me. “No worries.” He is sweet but his voice is wary. Tate and I probably looked like two mute idiots. How humiliating. Andrew seamlessly continues our conversation. I use this opportunity to study him and search for the meaning of Tate’s irrational display. I didn’t really focus on Andrew’s features before. He’s not ugly, but he’s definitely not in the same calibre as Tate or Glenn. Now that I’m looking closer at him, there is something off about his looks. I can’t put my finger on it but something doesn’t fit. It has to be something small like his eyes aren’t in line or his facial features are too far apart, maybe bad teeth or ears that are too big or small, but I can’t see any of that. All his features seem symmetrical and in proper proportion to his face, but something is definitely not right. Out of the corner of my eye I see Tate flailing his arms about. I shoot a glance his way trying not to be noticeable only to see he is frantically running his hand through his hair before tugging on the ends. No, tugging is too tame, he is pulling hard on his hair. I glance around the café and no one has seemed to notice Tate’s complete and mental breakdown. He’s lost it. Maybe it’s all the coffee fumes, they are really strong in here. When I look back towards Tate he is on his way over to the table carrying our hot drinks. I roll my eyes at his determined stare and wonder what antics he has planned for us this time. Tate doesn’t falter as he strides towards the table and proceeds to drop a hot cup of coffee all over the table and into Andrew’s lap. I gasp in shock at what is unfolding in front of me. Andrew jumps from his seat, squealing like a small girl. I watch horrified as his hair falls off his head and lands on the table in front of me. My mouth drops open as I just stare at Andrew’s toupee lying in spilt coffee. Glancing up at Andrew I see the heat rising on his face and shiny bald head. I smile awkwardly at him as I pick up his hairpiece and hold it out to him as if it’s a pair of dirty underwear and I can’t stand to touch it. He quickly swipes it from my hand and places it on his head, but not before I notice his whole head, bright red in mortification. It’s like a beacon calling in planes for landing. Andrew stares at me, his hairpiece on backwards and coffee leaking from it, dripping all down his face. “I’m so sorry Andrew,” I whisper, as I place both my hands over my mouth. Shit, I can feel the laughter rising. “No, I’m sorry Harper.” My gut churns on his behalf at the humiliation he must be feeling. The silence of the café surrounds us, lucky it’s not overly busy at this time of night. Andrew glares at Tate who smiles and raises his hands innocently, before Andrew storms out of the café not breathing another word, just leaving a trail of coffee in his wake. “You’re welcome,” Tate says casually as he pulls a clean chair up to the table, before relaxing back into it and crossing his ankles in front of him.
