About The Author

Rachel Brookes is from a coastal town on the east coast of Australia where beaches, kangaroos and surfers roam free. She writes angsty love stories with a pinch of craziness, a dash of drama, a cup of romance and a spoonful of sexiness… oh and the main ingredient hot guys. Rachel sometimes forgets to eat, sometimes forgets to sleep and sometimes can’t remember the last time she cleaned her apartment but that’s because she is in a long term relationship with her laptop and is constantly writing. When she does step away from her laptop she can be found taking too many photos, making scrumptious cocktails, laughing at Adam Sandler movies and spending her time with her amazing family and friends. “Sav, are you ready?” Tate’s voice boomed through the hotel room. I gave myself a once-over and nodded at my reflection. It was now or never. My heels clicked on the polished floorboards as I moved towards the living area of our room. My hands nervously skimmed down the front of my white bandeaux dress as I waited with bated breath for Tate to see me. The theme for the evening was black, white, and red, and I was in my white dress with my red heels, my black clutch, and my blond hair swept to one side in a cascade of curls over my shoulder. “Sav, we really—” Tate turned in my direction and his face stilled as his eyes raked over my body. As he shifted his gaze from my red heels, up my legs, and over my hips, hesitating at my boobs and then finally landing on my face, I felt my cheeks burn under his gaze. I seriously needed to get my blushing under control. “Fuck,” Tate hissed between clenched teeth as his possessive eyes undertook their second assault of my body. I was getting the reaction I’d craved and the lioness began to purr within me. I strutted towards him, the sound of my heels clicking against the floorboards matched the increasing beat of my heart perfectly. My lust-filled eyes landed on his bottom lip, which he was gnawing on with his teeth, and I suddenly felt alive. “Like what you see, Mr. Connors?” I twirled in front of him, making sure I was just outside of arm’s reach. “In a dress like that, Miss Rae, you are the spawn of Satan.” He took a step towards me and I was suddenly lost under the scent only he possessed. “And for once I’m not afraid of visiting Hell to get what I want.” “Well we can’t visit Hell because we have a bar opening to go to.” I spun on my heel and took off through the room, loving the feeling that sassy Savannah was out to play.

I walked into the kitchen and dumped the bottle down the sink. I started the coffee pot and made it strong. I was sure he hadn’t eaten anything, either, so I opened his fridge and started to make him something to eat. I ignored all the comments he made about my coming in as if he wanted me there, but I stopped cold at one comment.

“I used to think it was hard to compete with a ghost, but now that they are coming back in the flesh, I can’t compete with them at all, can I? All this time I’ve spent trying to save you and you were just lost, but they’ve found you now.”

I started taking out stuff for sandwiches and grabbed the bread on my way to the counter that he had his head on. I reached over and ran my fingers through his hair. “Kyle, there’s no competition for you to worry about. It’s just baggage from my past that I have to work through, but I am all yours.” I wanted it to be true, but I started to think about that kiss Johnny had given me before I left, and I was still confused. I needed to fix this with Kyle, though.

Kyle grabbed my wrist and pulled me around the counter to him. He hugged me close. “If that were only true, Livy. If that were only true.”

I hugged him back. “You haven’t called me Livy in a long time. I’ve missed it.”

He pulled back a little and looked in my eyes. “I have a confession to make.” I tilted my head and looked puzzled. “I haven’t been calling you anything. When I say Liv, it isn’t your name. After you bought those sleeping pills, I’ve been telling you to live every chance I can—especially at the more stressful or anxious times. It just worked out that it could be a play on your name.”

I looked at him as if I had never seen him before. It was as if I truly got him for the first time. I thought back to key times that he walked up to me and just said live. It had helped me, even if I thought he was just saying my name. I knew then I was completely in love with Kyle. I cupped his face and kissed him lightly on the lips. “Thank you for taking such good care of me even when I didn’t see it.” I hugged his neck tight. “I have confessions of my own to get out tonight, but I need you to sober up before we talk.” I pulled away, poured him a cup of coffee, and then started the sandwiches.

B.L. Mooney started writing when the voices and storylines in her head ran out of room. They were getting too cramped and neither B.L. nor the characters could take it anymore, so she did the only thing she could do--she made room. She always knew she wanted to write, but vowed to make time for it later. Now that she's made time for writing, most everything else falls to the wayside. That seems to suit the characters that keep popping up just fine.

Lynae’s bottom lip trembles. “What do you want me to say?”

I know what I want her to say. I want her to say that she loves me and that we can go back to the way things were. “Say whatever you need to say to me. Just talk to me.” I reach out again to trace her bottom lip with my thumb and cup her cheek. This time she doesn’t pull away, she closes her eyes and lets me hold her face. “Please.”

“I can’t do this, Connor. I just can’t.” her voice cracks.

“Can’t do what? Can’t love me? Please, you have to forgive me. I am so sorry for hurting you.”

Lynae grabs my wrist in her tiny fingers and pulls my hand away from her face. She tries to push me away, then places her palms flat against her stomach. I fall to my knees, reach out and wrap my arms around her waist pulling her to me, and bury my face against her belly. “Connor!” she gasps.

“Please, Lynae. I’m begging you. I need you. Please tell me that you still love me.” I can feel tears pricking my own eyes. My throat feels like it may close up from the gut wrenching pain I’m bulldozing through me.

Lynae’s hands find their way into my hair. She doesn’t push me away, she lightly runs her fingers through my unruly hair. This small sign of affection gives me hope. “It’s not that I don’t love you, Connor. It’s just-“

“Just what? Sweetness, I will never forgive myself for what happened. I can’t even begin to imagine how much you must hate me, but I’m asking you to please give me another chance.” I beg looking up into her eyes so full of pain.

“I don’t hate you. I wish I could, but I can’t. I still love you, and that’s what makes this so hard.”
