Rome by Jay Crownover Review: 1/2/14

Review

I really, really loved this book. Reading a book with a strong female lead that has a don't fuck with me attitude but that also has a mama bear protective vibe is always a nice change of pace. Cora and Rome have been in each other's circles for years, never really noticing one another, but when Rome leaves for the war, everything changes. He comes back as someone no one knows anymore and Cora doesn't let him take his new found "winning personality" out on anyone else. Rome doesn't know what to make of this sptifire and from the day she pours her beer over his head, she never leaves his mind. My one and ONLY complaint about this book was the way it ended so abruptly and my one and only hope is that because there will be a book four, any unresolved questions and unfinished situations will come to be concluded then. This is a story not to missed, about love, loss, sacrifice, lessons learned and coming into your own after losing yourself completely for awhile. Absolutely must read, more than once if you can. Four and a half stars.

Synopsis
Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.
Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .

Jay Crownover Author Pic copyI’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.
I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.

VIP by M. Robinson Review 12/27/13

VIP
**** Caution contains adult language, sex, and drug use --- for mature readers only ****
If you are completely against reading about infidelity, this book is not for you. I had so many emotions while reading this story. The story follows the lives of two people Ysabelle Telle and Sebastian Vanwell. It totally screwed with my mind and I loved it. I didn’t know if I should hate the main characters, love them, or feel sorry for them? This book was emotional, it starts off a little slow with the childhood stories of the two main characters, but you need to understand how they got to where they are. The story picks up the pace about a third of the way in and if you are fan of passionate, steamy, sometimes dirty sex scenes, you will not be disappointed.

Ysabelle‘s childhood is very sad, she has a horrible mother that is a prostitute. Most nights of her childhood she goes to bed hungry and alone. When she is just 12 years old she has a horrible experience with one of her mother’s johns. This is when she realizes she needs to fend for herself and to stop wishing for love from her mother. Ysabelle starts using her body to get things she needs (food, clothes, money) from the boys at school, but she is always in control of the situation. At 16 she runs away from her mother and her horrible life to Miami, where she ends up getting a job in a bar working for a man names Devon. Ysabelle starts making a decent life for herself and everything is going good, but she feels like something is missing. While working at the bar she meets Madam, who is the owner of the business VIP. Madam persuades Ysabelle to become a VIP escort.

Sebastian Vanwell is an only child of wealthy couple; he has a very good childhood. His best friend is Julia, the daughter of family friends that he has known from the day she was born. The two of them are inseparable and completely love each other. When he is 12 and Julia is 10, Julia’s parents decide to adopt another child. When Sebastian sees Olivia for the first time, he knows things will never be the same. Olivia, Julia, and Sebastian are the Three Musketeers, but Sebastian knows that his relationship with Olivia is different from his and Julia’s; he is in love with her and her with him. The two of them keep their true feelings from Julia and try to keep to themselves through the years. Until one night all their lives change.
Years later, Sebastian meets Ysabelle at an event on one his client’s yacht.  He is very taken aback by her appearance and she has a strange pull to him as well. Through the twists and turns, their lives intertwine. She is the addiction he cannot get out of his mind, body, and soul. She has never believed in love, but she starts to have feelings for him. This isn’t your normal love story; it is raw, gritty, and emotional.

Schizoaffective disorder: a mental illness in which a person experiences a combination of mood disorder and schizophrenia symptoms.
I know about this illness—very well—because I suffer from it. It’s been four years since my diagnosis, and ever since, I’ve been living in a dark hole. Voices constantly invading my thoughts. Hallucinations. All of which force me to question if what I’m experiencing is even reality.
But here I am, still hanging on, still breathing and living through it.
That is, until he stumbled into my life. Logan Reed. I don’t want any part of him. I’ve pushed him away, but he isn’t easily deterred. I’ve told him I’m different, but he doesn’t care. He’s trying to slowly break me down. I’m trying just as hard not to let him. He doesn’t know how truly damaged I am; what will happen when he does?
I know the truth—he’ll never be able to look at me the same way again. Just like everybody else.

Living In Sin by Isabel Lucero Review: 12/23/13

LIVING IN SIN BY ISABEL LUCERO REVIEW BY TONYA

Living in Sin
I was lucky enough to be chosen by Isabel Lucero to receive an ARC of “Living in Sin”. It was amazing, if you love steamy romances but want something with a different back story, this book is a must have! The first chapter of the book is probably one of the hottest, steamiest things I have read, and I think I fell in love! Jace Jamison is a man who gets what he wants, when he wants, how he wants and the women who want him… pay him, because he is a male escort in Sin City (Las Vegas).

Jace Jamison is every woman’s fantasy come true. He is gorgeous, sexy, wealthy and charming. While he is leaving one of his “jobs”, he spots beautiful woman who catches his eye. Adrienne is a beautiful event planner that has a semi-boring life. She tells her best friend Emilie about this beautiful man she has seen a couple of events but he is always with a different woman. She thinks he is a GLC (God-like creature) but has come to the conclusion that he is a player. As luck would have it, Em (who is hilarious and outgoing) run into Jace, Adrienne tries to steer clear, but Jace has other ideas.
As the story goes on, you also get to meet the “guys”, Jace’s four friends, who are also escorts that are fun, witty, and have steamy, sexy stories as well. This face paced, erotic romance will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are twist, turns, sex, sadness, anger, excitement, happiness, and humor… this book has it all! You need to add this to your TBR list.
***And bonus… this is the first of the series. I can’t wait to read more about my favorite group of guys!

SYNOPSIS

**This story contains graphic sexual content and strong language. Intended for mature audiences only.**

Jace Jamison is every woman’s fantasy. He’s a mysterious businessman willing to sweep you off your feet, a tattooed bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and a sexy friend you want to take that next step with. Jace is everything and anything you want him to be. He’s a highly paid escort.

But nobody knows who Jace really is; the man whose dad abandoned him, whose brother was killed, and who had to take care of his mom at a young age. At the age of nineteen, he was living in Sin City, ready for a life away from stress and struggle.

Adrienne has been having a sexual drought since she broke up with her boyfriend. Even then she wasn’t getting fully satisfied. Being an event planner, she’s constantly working at numerous events. Several times she’s seen a man she can only refer to as the God-like creature at her work functions. He’s devastatingly handsome, tall, and has beautiful eyes, but he’s always with a different woman. The last thing she needs is another player in her life.

After a few chance encounters with Jace, her best friend convinces her to just get some good sex out of him and not worry about who she’s seen him with. But what happens when she finds out that he isn’t dating these women because he wants to, but because he’s paid to?

Keeping his job a secret from Adrienne seems easy at first, but when she begins meeting people he knows in his escort life, and they begin getting closer, he knows he has to tell her before someone else does.

When their worlds entwine, and confessions are made, will they be able to work through it? Will she be able to push aside his sins and focus on the good in him? Will Jace get what he’s never had? A woman who wants him despite what he’s done. Or will living in sin cost him what he never knew he wanted?

*An erotic, contemporary romance*
*Book one in a series, but can be read as a standalone.*

The Promise by SL Jayne Review- 12/21/13

The Promise Review:

My sister wrote this and she knows I tell it like it is so if I hated her book, she'd be the first to hear about it. This was AWESOME and I loved it! I am so proud of how well she articulated this story, blending the stories of two best friends so well together and separately- giving them each their own individual identities in the book.

Ava and Ryless became friends back in Boston as small girls and a pinkie promise one night at a sleepover changes and linked their futures together forever. When they move to California after college to start over away from the pain of the past, running away soon shows itself to be impossible when past, present and future collide.

I am looking forward to part two of this story, with the developing relationship between Rylee and Matt. I see them both having a lot to learn about each other's pasts and growing together into a beautiful future they both deserve. Five stars well deserved Sis- SO proud of you! xoxo Kellie

Synopsis: How far would you go to help your best friend?

Do you remember when you were young, and made pinky promises with your best friend about living together, dating movie stars, being famous and double weddings?

Ava and Rylee had the same plans. Knowing the home life Rylee had, Ava knew that all of those dreams of fun and freedom would always be just that. Dreams. That was until one night, Rylee asked Ava to pinky promise they would move away as soon as they were old enough and able to.

Ava's advice to Rylee is to have fun and have faith, but most of all believe in herself and learn to trust that not all guys can't be trusted... But can Ava learn to take herself own advice when it comes to her own heart?

This book is intended for age 17+ due to sexual content, violence and strong language.

About the Author: I love reading, I have way too many book boyfriends and I love to chat! I have a daughter who I love more than the stars. She is my whole life. My mum and sister have and always will be my rocks, they have stood by me through everything I've faced.
I sometimes talk too much, I have huge blonde moments, big freak outs and hyper moments which lead to me being reminded to breathe!

After starting to read again more regularly I met some great girls online through our love of books. Since being an admin on a Facebook book page I have gotten to know some amazing authors and a few of those I now consider great friends.

People keep saying to me "with the amount of books you have read, you could write one yourself!"

So why not? :)

Conklin's Blueprints by Brooke Page Review: 12/20/13

CONKLIN’S BLUEPRINTS REVIEW

4.5 stars
O-M-G, I love Tyler and Becca. Both the main characters have flaws, (a little Fifty Shades meets Crossfire Series to me), but if they didn’t have flaws, I would have been bored with the story. Who wants to read about to two beautiful, rich people that are perfect and have a perfect relationship?
Becca Stine is a 24 year old college graduate who was dealt a bad hand when her boyfriend Connor cheated on her in her last year of college with her childhood friend Ashlynn. To get over the devastation, she and her best friend Jamie lived it up for a year in Florida. After a frightful encounter in her dangerous lifestyle Becca and Jamie make the move back to Becca’s hometown of Grand Rapids after she accepts a job at Conklin Architecture, Construction, and Design. (She’s a good girl who tried to be bad, who just wants to be loved… ahhh)
Tyler Conklin is a beautiful complex man, he along with his father and brothers, run Conklin Architecture, Construction, and Design. When we first meet him, we realize that there are some underlying problems with him that are going to affect his story. The first realization this is his sexual escapade with his childhood nanny at his grandfather’s funeral. (oh, this guy is going to be awesome to read about.)
I love how Becca and Tyler meet; it reminded me a lot of Gideon and Eva from Crossfire, but with a different twist. They meet at work, Tyler is her bosses’ boss, who is intrigued by the new employee (Becca), and calls her out for her opinion during her first company meeting. The story moves smoothly, the writing great; we really get a feel for Becca and Tyler’s struggles and passion throughout the book.
The only issue I had with Becca is that she can be a little too whiny and insecure at times, but if you think about it, you should be able to completely relate as a woman. How would you feel if your boyfriend cheated on you, with your friend, in your bed, I’d be insecure too? Tyler also has his own demons with his family and relationships, that sometimes I just wanted to slap and he tell him to grow a pair.
The supporting cast of this book was also amazing. I love Jamie’s unwavering support for Becca and the Conklin brother’s family chemistry great. Also, every book needs a bad girl, enter… Ashlynn and a horrible parent – JR Conklin or Missy Stine (take your pick).
I give this book a definite 4.5 stars. If you loved Fifty Shades and the Cross Fire series, this book is defiantly for you!
***This is the first book in the Conklin’s Blueprints Trilogy.

TEASER:

“Let me call a cab quick,” Tyler said, reaching for his pocket.

I gently touched his arm and said, “It’s not too cold, let’s walk. My place isn’t that far away.”

He looked me up and down and raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure? I don’t want to have to carry you half way,” he teased.

“Ha ha ha, I will be fine, and…I’m not wearing heels,” I snickered, lifting my foot and wiggling my toes as though if could see them.

He tried to hide his amusement. “Okay, if you say so.”

We slowly walked downtown amongst the young crowds of clubbers. I snaked my arm threw his and leaned my head on his shoulder as we walked. He flinched at first, but then relaxed into me.

We stopped in the park along the railing, just as we had the first night we went to the coffee shop. I leaned into him, hoping he would wrap his arms around me. I felt so comfortable and confident with alcohol running through me. He shook his head and chuckled. Sliding his fingers up and down my arms he said, “You’re funny when you are drunk.”

I pulled my head back and looked up at him. “I am so not drunk yet,” I said seriously at first then let out a little giggle. He smiled down at me, our faces nearly inches from each other’s. His expression became serious, and his hands slowed running up and down my arms, stopping on my forearms. I never wanted someone to kiss me so badly. I leaned up and closed my eyes, hoping he would get the picture. I felt his nose touch mine then his mouth was on mine. My lips were no longer tingling from the alcohol but tingling from the sensation of his lips working against mine. I allowed his tongue access to my mouth as a slow low groan escaped him. It was like he flicked a switch inside of me with his tongue. I brought my arms up to his head and ran my fingers through his hair. Our bodies flushed together, I noticed his arms were still at his sides. Why wasn’t he touching me?

He slowed down the kiss and gently pulled away, keeping his forehead on mine. I was still breathing heavy.

“I need to get you home,” his voice was raspy, with ulterior meaning. I slowly opened my eyes and turned to start walking. He took my hand and squeezed it, causing me to pick up my pace. He wanted to be alone with me just as badly. I could feel it in his kiss.
