Part 4
Focus drove Dylan to clean, it certainly wasn’t a love for cleaning that made him scrub the house. He’d become a determined man. With one or two solid pushes, he was done mopping the kitchen. Funny, the tile floor was actually white. Who knew? He didn’t dare walk across the wet floor to place the mop back in the closet, instead he leaned it against the wall and took a look around the single room that encompassed their kitchen, living room, and eating area. It wasn’t much but the place was clean.
He looked down at his watch. It was ten fifteen at night. Teri would most likely be on her way home by now. He went for the desktop computer he’d gotten for Christmas and dialed into the internet. Seconds felt like hours as he pulled up AOL and opened his email. He had mail.
One email, the one he’d been waiting for. Dylan opened the message and beamed at the screen. He hadn’t waited too long. His Professor was putting him in touch with a Senior Executive at Texas Instruments. They’d been recruiting him for a while, he’d just never settled down long enough to take any of this too seriously. All of that was going to change. He was determined to do whatever it took to make a better life for his family.
Teri opened the front door. His back was to her so he swiveled around in the desk chair, bringing his finger to his lips before she had a chance to speak. “Shhh, they’re asleep.”
He could tell that little bit of information surprised her. She nodded her head, quietly turning around to carefully shut the door behind her. Chloe their oldest and Chad shared a bedroom. Cate, their youngest was asleep in a crib inside the bedroom he and Teri shared. Dylan usually took the sofa.
“You cleaned?” she asked walking to the small kitchen table and dropping her purse and coat on top of the well-worn wood. “Are you going out?”
He watched as she cautiously looked him over. He’d also showered, cleaned himself up and actually shaved. Something he apparently didn’t do that often judging by the look in Teri’s eyes. “Nah, I’m done with all that. We need to talk.”
“Look Dylan, I don’t wanna hear about…” He held up his hand and stopped her. Whatever she had to say needed to wait. His convictions were firm. He’d held on to them all day, but having his wife standing in front of him right now somehow caused uncertainty to filter in. He just had to say it!
“Teri sit down. Please, just sit down.” He pulled out one of the kitchen chairs – the one that wasn’t broken and offered it to her. “Please, just hear me out first.”
She finally sat. He took a seat on the coffee table, it wasn’t far from her. The speech he’d rehearsed all day conveniently fled his mind as she stared blankly at him. She was something else. She always had been. He rose, stuck his hands in his pocket and started to pace back and forth in front of her. He couldn’t find his words.
“Just say it, Dylan.”
“I haven’t been honest.” No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t look her in the eyes. He wasn’t sure now if he could even get the words out. The truth will set you free, wasn’t that the saying? Who the hell came up with that load of shit? No doubt someone that hadn’t been lying to everyone his whole entire life. He was so nervous. He felt physically ill at the thought of what he was about to reveal..
“No shit…” Teri started right in on him.
He took a deep breath and sat down in front of her. “Hang on. Let me say this.” He scrubbed his hands down his face and gathered his spine. “I haven’t been truthful about a few things, but I have an idea and you need to hear me out. I took on more hours at the store and I also talked to my dad. He thinks my uncle needs some part time help this summer around the farm. I also talked to my coding professor and he’s going to put me back in front of Texas Instruments recruiting. He says I’m a fit. If I buckle down, I can finish my undergrad in about two semesters – at least I think I can, but if I can get on at TI, I can make the money needed to support you and the kids and maybe you could look at law school more seriously again.” That was his carrot he dangled in front of her. He needed her on board with all of this. His heart was pounding so hard, he wasn’t sure his words even made since. He paused and watched her face. She was confused, but processing what he’d just said.
“Okay.” Her facial expressions morphed a few more times before she started again. “This is a major about face. When you say support me and the kids, where does that leave you?”
She was smart. Out of everything he’d said, she picked up on those few simple words. He’d stalled long enough. He started to rise. The nervous energy coursing through him needed to be released, but then he forced himself back down, sitting on the edge of the old coffee table. Fuck this was hard. He looked down at his hands. No matter what steps he took today, nothing would change or soften the enormous impact of his next confession.
“I’m not sure you’ll agree to this, or even want to be around me anymore. I’ll understand if you leave, I don’t deserve you or the kids. I’ve been lying to you and everyone in my life.” He tried to keep going but just couldn’t. Shame and dread filled his heart.
“What’s the lie, Dylan?” Teri asked quietly.
It took several minutes for him to get up enough nerve to whisper the words he’d been so afraid to say out loud to anyone before today. “I’m pretty sure… No wait. I know for sure that I’m… I’m gay, Teri.”
Silence sat between them. The tension growing unbearably thick in the small room. Teri said nothing but after a couple of long, intense moments he lifted his head and watched as she gathered her things and retreated down the dark hall to their room. His eyes tracked her until the bedroom door shut, locking her in with Cate.

But where Tristan wants to move forward, Dylan struggles with his choice since he had hidden for so long, now it's just a way of living. I truly loved the love and support that Dylan's wife gave him over the years, that showed true love and loyalty. You see Dylan slowly come out of his shell and be the man he always wanted to be but thought he couldn't. You see him realize that life doesn't have to be hard with his loved ones at his side. His whole family and his friends accepted his relationship with Tristan which, I will say brought a tear to my eye, they loved him no matter what.
This whole book shows the daily struggles for someone who is dealing with their sexuality and that you shouldn't have to hide, the important people will always love and support you.
5 stars.

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It's always a surprise to see what's coming next!
I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it's true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women's hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life - I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations - regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal... I don't want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I'm going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I'll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died - weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn't have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It's everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness - it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn't a time she wasn't there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It's its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn't be here today without her.
